Frequently asked questions
Mission O/S is a free educational program from Rise8 designed for government teams and change agents who want to ship software outcomes inside existing government structures. It includes a video course series and a live discussion series called Mission O/S Live.
Mission O/S is built for GovTech leaders and change agents inside government or supporting government programs who are trying to move faster, adopt modern practices, and deliver mission-critical software without burning themselves out navigating the bureaucracy.
The series, led by Rise8 Founder and CEO Bryon Kroger, breaks down why software delivery fails inside government—and what conditions and execution practices are required to make shipping possible. Bryon draws on firsthand experience co-founding Kessel Run (the DoD's first software factory) and delivering software outcomes across multiple government programs with Rise8.
There are 16 episodes in season one of Mission O/S. New episodes are released every other week.
Yes. The entire Mission O/S video series is free and available at rise8.us/resource/hub.
Mission O/S Live is a bi-weekly live discussion series featuring Rise8 leaders and GovTech subject matter experts. The sessions are informal and unscripted, focused on real-world challenges inside government programs today—from acquisition and compliance to culture change and leadership.
The video series is a structured course that teaches the Mission O/S framework. Mission O/S Live extends that conversation with guests and practitioners, exploring what it actually takes to ship across people, process, and technology in real government contexts.
Mission O/S was created by Bryon Kroger, Founder and CEO of Rise8. A former U.S. Air Force officer, Bryon co-founded Kessel Run—the Department of Defense's first software factory—and pioneered the first continuous Authority to Operate (cATO). He built Mission O/S in response to a persistent problem: government software programs routinely consume enormous time, budget, and talent—yet fail to deliver meaningful capability. Mission O/S is his attempt to change that, making the Rise8 delivery playbook freely available to anyone working inside government.
